J:Dew

Happy summer again! I’ve previously mentioned how I received J:Dew products from q-depot (www.q-depot.com), and they’ve been a great addition to my routine this holiday. Today, I’ll be reviewing two products: the toner, and the serum.

J:DEW Green Moist Toner

IMG_5992

What it is:

  • An amazing Korean skin care product which will cool and moisturizes your skin in almost no time leaving behind smooth texture to your skin without any sticky feelings.
  • It contains pure and organic aloe vera and green tea from the clean soil of Jeju Island, which effectively smooth irritated and troubled skin while proving enough moisture to the deeper layers of your skin. Not only this, it also magically reduces the look of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Best of all, all the products from J:DEW are free from following 6 harmful additives: parabens, mineral oils, animal derivatives, artificial aromas, artificial colorings, and benzophenone making them very friendly to the sensitive skin as well.

IMG_5993

Ingredients:

  • Water, Glycerine, Propanediol , 1,2-Hexanediol, Diglycerine, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Ethanol, Brassica Oleracea Italica (Broccoli Extract), Green Tea Extract, PEG-6+E80 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Arginine, Carbomer, Adenosine, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil , Lavandula Hybrida Oil, Hydrolyzed Glycosaminoglycans

Of the series, I’ve really enjoyed using this toner! It’s refreshing and has a light consistency, which I’d liken to a little runnier than the Hada Labo lotion. On days when my skin feels like it needs nourishing (more so than a light toner mist anyway), I spread this out onto my skin after cleansing and my skin feels supple and moist again.

IMG_5984

IMG_5985

This toner is also like aromatherapy to me; it smells like aromatherapic oils and lavender, which really make me feel relaxed at night. The scent is truly soothing, and makes me feel at ease while I prep myself for the rest of my routine. How cute – prepping my face, and my mind!

I will however need to put across that this stuff does not leave your face hydrated for hours on end – it absorbs into my skin fairly quickly (within 15-30m), and that’s when I know that it’s time for me to apply my serum/essence.

J:DEW Green Moist Essence

IMG_5990

What it is:

  • Must-have Korean skin care product, which provides immediate moisture and energy to your skin cells while the effect remains for long hours.
  • Formulated with green tea and aloe vera from the clean soils of Jeju Island. Both of these ingredients are known for the provision of moisture to the skin for ages.
  • The moisture effect goes to the deeper layers of your skin while leaving your irritated skin calm, smooth and moisturized.
  • Also contains Shea Butter, which nourishes and moisturize your skin and turns pigmented and rough skin into rejuvenated and radiant skin.
  • Antioxidants from broccoli extract protect your skin from any further damage and help to bring back your healthy tone and radiant skin.
  • Free from 6 harmful additive: parabens, mineral oils, animal derivatives, artificial aromas, artificial colorings, and benzophenone, thus making it friendly to the sensitive skin as well.

IMG_5991

Ingredients:

  • Water, Glycerine, Propanediol, Dimethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane, Brassica OleraceaItalica (Broccoli Extract), Cyclohexasiloxane, Betaine, Cetearylolivate, Sheabutter, SorbitanOlivate, Sodium Polyacrylate, Glyceryl Caprylate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Green Tea Extract, Sophora Angustifolia Root Extract, Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Flower Extract, Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Extract, Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract, Citrus Junos Fruit Extract, 1, 2-Hexanediol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Lavandula Hybrida Oil, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Hydrolyzed Glycosaminoglycans, Adenosine, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Glyceryl Caprylate, Sodium Levulinate, Sodium Anisate, Butylene Glycol

IMG_5995

IMG_5996

This serum has a very smooth formula, fairly similar to the standard serum you’d have. It does feel heavy on my skin (!), but in the way you’d expect a highly nourishing product to be. It smells fairly similar to the toner, and when I massage it into my skin, the dryness/flakiness I’m susceptible to just disappears. Even though I sleep in an air-conditioned room, after applying this serum, I don’t wake up with tight and dry skin!

I say this bearing in mind that my skin type is combination (dry cheeks/forehead/chin, oily t-zone) – and in my humid weather in Singapore, this will only be suitable at night. If I wore this under my makeup in the day, my cushion would probably melt off by noon!

OIL-BLOTTER TEST

So I spread the four products out on a sheet of oil-blotting paper, and let them sit for a while to see how their oil content is.

IMG_5988Immediately after

IMG_600710 minutes later

IMG_6009 2An hour later

So as a preview to the lotion and cream, I’ve dispensed little drops of each product onto an oil blotting paper. While the products do look similar at first glance, they’re clearly formulated very differently – with high oil content in the serum!

These cruelty-free products have genuinely surprised me with how soothing they’ve made me feel. I’ve previously gone for “HG!!! this stuff’s the best” products, but considering how my skin has been flaring up in recent months, I’ve been looking for something with less gimmicks.

Look forward to my reviews of the lotion and cream coming soon then – I’m sure you’ll need products to lock in all that moisture! I’ll also be doing an overall review of the range then 🙂

Preview: J:DEW Green Moist Skincare

Summer’s been a blast! I travelled to Seoul in April/May, and I’ve yet to post my trip experience – that’s definitely long overdue. I’m actually undertaking a summer internship now, so time’s tight and posts are… in the queue. They’re in the queue, I’m prepping them, but they’re just… not…. really ready yet……..

Today’s post is a preview on my soon-to-come review on a new brand I’ve encountered, J:DEW. Ivy from Q-depot recently reached out to me, and has kindly sent me some products to try. Q-depot is an online Korean Beauty cosmetics store that specializes in cruelty-free and eco-friendly Korean skincare products, and they offer a ton of products which I’ll be checking out.

For today, I’m sharing some snapshots of J:DEW (“Green Beauty & Green Life, Clean & Pure Energy of NATURE”) (so cute!! hahaha), a brand containing ingredients from  Jeju Island. I may have glanced across this brand while I was Jeju, so maybe we’re fated to be together for now! (?) !

The box arrived at my doorstep one morning….

IMG_5963.JPG

…and as I unboxed it…

IMG_5965.JPG

…it revealed a treasure trove of skincare!

J:DEW Green Moist Cream

Gorgeous products! I’ve really been falling behind in my skincare routine recently, and here’s to hoping this’ll save my skin. First thoughts of the products would be that they really smell great – after a long day in the office, coming home to products that smell like soothing essential oils really helps me rest. I’m still in the process of patch testing and reviewing the products, so I’ll catch up with my thoughts and comments soon! 🙂

The Small Things

As much as I’ve wanted to maintain Milliefeuille on a regular basis, it’s been really tough handling just school alone – I honestly thought that I’d have better time management and more free time now, but I guess not?

I’ve blogged about how samples are my ‘小确幸/xiao que xing’ they’re part of the little things that keep me sane and just bring me a disproportionately large amount of joy in tuff times! It’s so irrational that I’d give myself an extra half an hour to get home so I could drop by Raffles City or Capitol Piazza just to collect some samples… when I can’t even give myself that extra half an hour of sleep sometimes… but hey, whatever works right?

Given so, I’d just like to share with you guys some of the great stuff I’ve received in the past couple of months – and the story of how I collected them 🙂

SULWHASOO

IMG_5788

I remember being particularly down that day – I don’t quite remember why, maybe it was that I’d just received my midterms grades back and they weren’t that great? So I went to google for some free samples, and it just random occurred to me that I might want to look up Sulwhasoo – and I saw that they were offering a 5-day trial for their Snowise series.

I was treated to a warm experience by the saleslady, who sat me down and let me try and explained to me what the different products were. She was especially generous with me as well, actually offering me the full ‘5 day’ trial that included 5 packets each of the Snowise Brightening Serum, Spot Treatment, Water, Cream, and Fluid, and the First Care Activating Serum EX (I’m saying this as some brands offer a ‘5 day trial’ with 1 packet of serum? Wouldn’t that be like, a misrepresentation?); I know my skin isn’t that great, so I wasn’t offended or anything but I was quite pleased that she took the time to diagnose my skin type and offered some Brightening Exfoliating Gel to me. Usually, I’d just be in a rush to get my samples and go, but given the environment… mmm, it felt like a great temporary respite.

ORIGINS

IMG_5786.JPG

Actually, not much of a story here. After visiting Sulwhasoo, I dropped by the Origins outlet at Robinsons Raffles City to collect it – and I left with a Platscription set including an anti-aging cleanser, powerful lifting cream, and powerful lifting neck and décolleté treatment. Ha! I actually also dropped by Lancome for some samples, but I gave those to my mum already.

FRESH

IMG_5780.JPG

I was having lunch with J at Nam Nam – when I remembered that I had this SMS from like, February!!! A month had passed since I’d signed up for a sample of the Black Tea Age-Delay Firming Serum – but I decided to head up to the store to try my luck anyway. And luck it was! The sampling offer was ending in 4 days, and I managed to get my trial bottle; I’m amazed at how generous they were with the packaging this time, it’s almost the same as the real packaging – with the glass dropper and all. It smells great too!

KIEHL’S

THE BODY SHOP

Hm. I was heading home from one of my finals papers and I needed to grab some food – I had extra time, so I dropped by the outlet at Junction 8 to pick up the Oils of Life Sleeping Cream and Facial Oil for my mum. She purchased the oil and toner (?) recently, and thought she’d like to try the new cream. I walked in, and asked whether or not I could redeem the sample – I mean I don’t expect anything, but without saying a word the saleslady turned around, grabbed the sample, turned back around and just stuck her hand out with it to me – all without saying a word? I said thanks and she continued to remain silent and I just left (???) what an odd sales experience… Extremely different from the warm and friendly service my mum and I experienced at Raffles City previously. I also collected some Drops of Light Serum and Cream.

Also I’ve spent the past few months taking a module that includes a case study on The Body Shop and Anita Roddick – did you know that Roddick was vehemently against advertising? Just food for thought.

BELIF

IMG_5792.JPG

My last finals paper was on Friday, and I was at Junction 8 with my mum again! Belif posted that they were offering samples of their new mask on Insta, so I dropped by with my mum to get a set. They’re offering quite a few products from 30-50% off now – fairly good deals but I don’t need anything right now 🙂

Altogether, I received varying amounts of First Aid Deep Pore Care Mask, Peat Miracle Revital Mask, Lavender Sky Hand Cream, First Aid Overnight Skin Regeneration Mask, First Aid Anti-Hangover Soothing Mask, Hungarian Water Essence, First Aid Overnight Brightening Mask, and First Aid Aqua Rush Mask. Each set came with 6 masks/samples, and my mum and I got a different assortment 🙂

PHYSIOGEL

IMG_5777.JPG

I signed up for samples online, and a few days later a package arrived in my mailbox! 🙂 Some Calming Relief Face Cream, and Calming Relief Gentle Cream Cleanser.

NEULII

IMG_5778.JPG

I’m sure you guys all know about this! Roseroseshop came up with their own brand, Neulii, and offered to send samples to anyone who messaged them on SNS 🙂 By chance, I got 5 packets each of the AHA Vita Brightening Serum, and the Teatree BHA Blemish Control Serum. I don’t quite fancy the AHA, but I’ve been using the BHA over the past couple of weeks and I’m quite happy using it 🙂

SAMPLESTORE

I love the way SampleStore works but…. man you really have to rush when the new samples are out haha. I was lucky enough to get a few things – Labo Labo Super Moist Gel, Dove Body Wash, Pond’s Flawless White BB Cream, and Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock!

MISCELLANEOUS

IMG_5793.JPG

Also I finally received the Histolab 72% Azulene Complex Ampoule samples from HKC Plaza… and did you know that Her World sometimes attaches free samples to the magazine? That’s a The History of Whoo Ja Saeng Essence.

And sometimes I win some stuff from contests 🙂 I received Bioderma micellar water travel bottles, including a Hydrabio H2O, Sensibio H2O, and a Sébium H2O. Super cute 🙂

Gmarket Haul: January 2015

This… is completely long overdue. Finals are finally over, and it’s summer (for the next 4 months!) I’ve posted about getting some stuff from Gmarket in May 2015, and in January I thought it was fair time I restocked some of my stuff – here we go!

DR. JART+ CERAMIDIN CREAM

What it is: “A lightweight cream to moisturize the skin.”
Why I purchased it: my skin was cracking and peeling and tight and just dying throughout my Differin routine; I needed something to repair my skin barrier, and I thought ceramide would do just the trick.
What it cost: After discounts, about SGD28.00 / KRW23,000
How it performs: A thick, thick humectant – smells just like the Ceramidin Liquid. I still prefer that one!

VERITE ULTRA MOIST SKIN INTENSE CREAM

IMG_5686

What it is: A cream packed with ceramides and stuff
Why I purchased it: I wanted a cream with ceramides, I was looking for a Verite cushion…. the packaging was too cute cmon let’s not kid myself
What it cost: After discounts, about SGD35.00 / KRW29,000
How it performs: I actually kind of prefer this over Dr. Jart+’s – that one is more like a balmy paste, while this one is a smooth cream that spreads over my skin

VERITE UV MULTI CUSHION LX WONDER STORY #21

IMG_5796.JPG

What it is: A “repurchase” of my HG Verite DX cushion
Why I purchased it: I love my Verite cushion. I wore it to work, I wore it to school like every day, and it was running out – I needed a refill, and since they discontinued the DX, I had to go with the LX
What it cost: After discounts, about SGD28.00 / KRW23,000
How it performs: Cute case, but I actually haven’t opened the new LX yet!

TOSOWOONG PROPOLIS SPARKLING AMPOULE

IMG_5687

What it is: A propolis sparkling ampoule.
Why I purchased it: I needed something soothing and something that would even my skin tone, given that I’m trying to clear PIH
What it cost: After discounts, about SGD25.00 / KRW21,000
How it performs: It has a thick, gel-like texture that leaves my face supple and hydrated; however, not too sure about the long-term effects?

SAMPLES GALORE

IMG_5685

Cute – the Verite stuff came with loooots of samples! It included a 5 Skin Care Trial Kit, a lip tint, a mini Skin Intense Cream, and a mist; the other stuff came with IOPE’s Bio-Essence mini mask, Mamonde anti-aging cream, Laneige Original Essence White Plus Renew, and a Hanyul mask; Tosowoong threw in some samples too!

IMG_5688

I’m actually headed off to Korea in a couple of days, and I’m planning to try everythingggg there so I can take advantage of the Gmarket $5 shipping promotion when I’m back! Exciting times – I’ve never looked forward to summer this much before. Cheers!

Stress vs My Skin

I haven’t posted anything in 4 months 😳

Ever since my last (really rushed and haphazardly prepared) post, I’ve completed a whole semester of uni and it’s been the most stressful 4 months of my life ever 😳😳😳Everyone who tells you that JC is the toughest academic period in your life is lying!!! I spent weeks on end studying till early morning in school, returning home the same time my grandma wakes up, but I can’t say that it hasn’t been great either – I’ve had a blast exploring new places, meeting new people, and trying new things. Usually after midnight.

‘Winter’ break now barely feels like break, but to me, milliefeuille is truly a welcome respite from finance. Skincare is one of the things that’s relaxing to me – as much as my mother tells me to ‘find a less shallow hobby’, I believe otherwise – I’m improving my skin (i.e. largest organ yo) and improving my health. (I’ve also recently started going to the gym! 2015’s been an adventure for me)

Actually my long-winded story really just means that I really haven’t had time to take care of my face… Piling on long hours with makeup on, sleeping at ungodly hours, and the intense exam/project-period stress, my face was a rough wreck by the time finals ended.

IMG_5671

Really, this is basically all that goes on my face now. I don’t get to try any of the fancy new serums, lotions, or sheet masks that I bought in the second half of this year, because it seems that this is all that my face can tolerate now 😦 L-R / T-B:

  1. Mizon AHA 8% Peeling Serum, 8% Glycolic acid. I purchased this a while ago from Venus Beauty for $10, as it expires in April 2016. I haven’t been using it consistently, but I’m hoping this’ll help to get rid of CCs.
  2. Differin, 0.1% Adapalene. My friend recommended this to me as we’re both struggling with similar facial issues, and I (conveniently) got this from the school clinic. While various people claim that it works really slowly/not at all for them, every time I use Differin + Stridex, my face becomes a painful, flakey mess. I guess it works!
  3. PAIR Acne Cream, Ibuprofen piconol. I got my first tube a few years ago, and it’s actually one of the top selling acne creams in Japan. I haven’t been using this as often, because I’m worried that layering acne treatments will make them conflict/less effective.
  4. La Roche Posay Cicaplast Baume B5. I tried this out of desperation, actually – I remembered reading one of the r/AB threads talking about HG non-AB products, and how this cream was great for healing super dry skin. The first time I tried it, it stung my skin but somehow it worked – I’m down to my second sample tube, and I’m actually considering purchasing this. Any thoughts?
I also received samples of the Effaclar Duo+, which contains an AHA/BHA if I’m not wrong. Didn’t want that to overlap with other treatments, so I haven’t tried it yet!
  5. Stridex Maximum. This didn’t work magically in the first week I used it, but works magically together with Differin. I’ve been using this once a day (or else my skin flakes like hell), but it seems to really be getting rid of the clogged pores and CCs on my cheeks! My nose actually seems somewhat ‘cleaner’ 😮
  6. Dr. Jart Ceramidin Liquid. And of course, the best for last – my HG repair toner. No matter the condition of my skin, I’m always comfortable with smothering my face in this glorious liquid – maybe I just haven’t tried anything else with ceramides that this light and absorbent and hydrating, but this is one of the few products in my collection that I can use during a breakout, and is actually effective. Fyi though, when I first got it, it had this strange scent that I didn’t quite like, but I’ve come to find it soothing now.

Does anyone else have any HG products they use 1. during a breakout, 2. while clearing CCs, 3. with flakey, dry skin, 4. for fading PIH, and 5. as a HG cleanser? I really haven’t had this rough, uneven skin in years (plus the makeup I wear now!), so I totally hope this clears up soon! (by the looks of it, I’ll be glowing by January again 🙂 )

Review: Hada Labo Gokujyun Cream

Hada Labo is a pretty darn well-liked brand – they make amazing toners, milks, gels, and facial washes! Back when I first got my HGs, Hada Labo Goku-jyun Lotion and Shiro-jyun Milk, there was a buy two get one free! deal going on at Guardian. My mum chose the Goku-jyun Cream as the third product.

IMG_5401

From the Hada Labo Singapore website:

Super HA Hydrating Cream

Day & Night Application

Nutritious hydrating cream that feeds nourishment to your skin while protecting your skin with continuous moisture

  • Contains 3 types of Hyaluronic Acid that deeply penetrates into the skin to nourish and helps restore skin’s moisture barrier to prevent moisture loss.
  • Helps to soften skin, leaving skin smooth and hydrated.
  • Available in 2 formulas. Regular moisturizing cream helps soothes normal / dry skin, while Light moisturizing cream hydrates normal / combination skin with its lighter, fluffy texture.
  • Fragrance Free • Alcohol Free • Mineral Oil Free • Colorant Free • Skin pH balanced • Low irritation • Dermatologically tested

So it looked like a pretty good product…. Until I applied it to my face.

IMG_5406

This is what the cream looks like in the tub – it’s got this terribly thick and sticky consistency, completely unlike the typical cream texture. While it is scentless and supposedly suitable for sensitive skin, I can’t imagine anyone using this in the daytime in this Singapore weather.

hadalabosticky

Sticky fingers! I have tried this cream multiple times at night, and what set off this review was the last time I tried this out a few days ago. My skin was super dry, and I wanted a quick fix – oil-based balms, or thick and sticky creams were my top pick for the day. While my HL Lotion + Mizon Snail + Laneige Sleeping Pack combo is my usual dry-skin solution, I decided to give this cream one last shot, and it was just A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT 😐 It sat like a layer of glue on my face throughout the night, and when I woke up in the morning, my skin was still equally dry. Not even slightly more moisturized, no, it was just… dull.

I think the cream just never absorbed into my skin – it sat on top and smeared itself all over my pillow as I tossed and turned in the middle of the night 😐

Really now. Look at this picture below – they look like they have the same consistency right? Looks like cream and gel right?

IMG_5408

YEAH NO the one on the right is just craft glue I really wanted to plaster on some white glue (but I couldn’t find any sigh so I had to pass off some normal glue as gel) to just give you guys an idea of how STICKY this cream is – IMO the glue spread almost as ‘well’ as the HL Cream.

I suppose if you wanted a ‘natural’ face glue for glueing glitter onto your face for a Halloween party this cream would work?? Sigh. I have noted that the Hada Labo products sold in Singapore are Made in China, unlike the ‘original’ Made in Japan ones – this might be a reason why the formulation is so different from what I’ve seen online.

I was going to consider my combination skin-type while writing this review, but my cheeks were so dry they’d pass as dry skin even – so why didn’t this work for me!? Sorry Hada Labo – as much as I love your lotion, this cream was an absolute disappointment – I definitely would not recommend this to anyone living in humid weather. Definitely go for the lotion though – that’s an actual skin-saver.

小确幸: Her World May 2015 x Metro Samples

IMG_5355

I had so much fun! My mother says that her ‘小确幸/xiao que xing’ is eating snacks/good food, and her friend’s is buying 4D/Toto; I’m like a ‘xiǎo auntie’, as she calls me, but mine would be going around getting free samples :>

I initially dropped by Farrer Park MRT station’s Metro to pick up samples, but what I failed to realise was that….. it was an absolutely tiny branch. I only managed to get 1 Kose sample and half a Lancome sample! 😦 So when I dropped by Centrepoint Metro later that night, I managed to pick up most of the items – really exciting 🙂

For the rest of the items that I failed to pick up, the next day I headed to Metro Paragon with my EXCO (the 2 guys scuttled away when they discovered I was heading to the beauty floor)

Not much to say here – I’ll just share with you what I got 🙂 I split the samples between my mum and I; the first four are for her, and the last few are for me!

Elizabeth Arden: Anti-Aging + Intensive Repair Daily Serum

IMG_5361

Elizabeth Arden isn’t exactly a brand for my age, so I passed this to my mother!

La Prairie White Caviar Illuminating Moisturizing Cream

IMG_5357

Ooh the saleslady for La Prairie was so friendly!! She sat me down and demonstrated the cream to me and it smelled absolutely heavenly :> It has this light, citrus-y scent, I can definitely imagine someone in my mum’s age group using this as a night cream.

Lancome 7-day Trial Kit for the Genifique serum, cream, and UV filter

IMG_5356
Same goes for this – I have tried my mother’s Lancome Genifique serum, but it’s quite… useless for me right?? No need to use so much anti-aging so early, I have this paranoid fear that if I use too much now they won’t work so well in future?!?!?! So this goes to my mum too 😀

Clarins Body Shaping Cream + Body Lift Cellulite Control

IMG_5362

…Also for my mum… – She’s been using Clarins products for YEARS now – both my parents enjoy using the face scrub, as well as the sunscreen. I’ve finally managed to convince them to convert to Asian sunscreens though! 😀

Burberry + Issey Miyake + Kenzo

IMG_5359

And for me! 😀

Chloé: Chloé + Love, Chloé + Love Story + Roses de Chloé + L’eau de Chloé

IMG_5363

One set for my mother, and one set for me! Chloé is one of her favourite scents, and I can definitely see why – they’re fresh and girly, so she handed me her set to try as well. I can finally discover my scent (??)!!

Laneige Pore Control BB Cushion Samples in #13 and #21

IMG_5358

I recently gave my Yiyi the Laneige Pore Control Cushion #21 I won from Her World, as I thought it probably wasn’t the right shade for me. However, after extended use I kind of feel like the Laneige #13 is a smidge too light for me (I usually don’t like to have to take the extra step to match my neck..). I am however worried that #21 will be too dark 😦

Kose Clear Cleansing Oil

IMG_5360

Ooh when I got a sample of the Kose Sekkisei pressed powder a couple of years ago I was absolutely AMAZED by how smooth it was?? Ever since then I’ve had this… admiration for Kose products. Not exactly something I needed, but I just knew that they were always there and… good! 😀 Not to mention, as I was collecting this cleansing oil, I noticed that they have a Kose x Cinderella collection – soooo cute!

A pity that I forgot to go get the SK-II samples! But I guess it’s alright.

VDL

I also managed to get samples from VDL – I quoted YinaGoh for this, thank you! VDL is quickly becoming one of my favourite makeup brands right now – as I’ve mentioned in my April favourites, within a few uses, the Beauty Metal Cushion Foundation has become an absolute favourite to work. It gives this dewy, gorgeous finish, but I suspect that A201 might be a little bright for me – I was interested in sampling A203, so the mega-friendly saleslady selected A203 as part of my sample set 🙂 I only have a foil sachet of the Real Skin Foundation A02, so now I should be able to ascertain my shade pretty easily once I sample them all.

The pack included: Lumilayer Primer, Perfect Skin Foundation, Almighty Ampoule Essence, and Almighty Cream.

On a side note, as I’ve been trying different foundations like every day over the past few weeks, I can probably say… I don’t really like the IOPE cushion 😦 Well, at least this brings me about 3 steps closer to reviewing all my cushions so I can publish my mega-review!

Beauty 101: Depotting and Airless Pump Bottles

AIRLESS PUMP BOTTLES!!!!!

IMG_5285

Today I’ll be talking about depotting my products into my favourite containers – airless pump bottles!!!! 😀 Okay, and also spray bottles. I like using pump bottles – in my opinion, they’re cleaner and easier to use.

IMG_5298N. O.

Like most girls, I like to keep my nails slightly longer so they look better when they’re painted. However, this means that it’s absolute hell trying to dip my fingers into jars of cream!! The cream gets all under my nails, and it’s just… plain gross.

You might retort, why not use a spatula instead? It’s clean and umm… you scoop stuff out of the jar. But I find this problematic – your spatula has to be clean anyway, and for it to be clean you have to wash it every time you use it 😦

That’s why I turned to using airless pump bottles!!

IMG_5299

Woohoo!! Look at how clean and simple the pump design is.

What makes airless pump bottles different from normal pump bottles (as seen in the centre above)? There’s no ‘straw’ to suck up the product from the bottom of the bottle, and it just gets sucked up as it’s a vacuum – the bottom of the bottle moves up as you use up more product.

IMG_5305

I’ve got 2 different sizes of airless pump bottles: pictured below is the smaller one!

IMG_5286

I first got these 10ml pump bottles from Taobao, and my uncle shipped it to his house in Shanghai, passing them to me over Chinese New Year. I got one to sample from Qoo10 (for $2.50!?!?!), while these cost less than $1 each – even with shipping!

As you can see, practically everything works in these bottles. Gels, Creams, Liquids – everything works! Okay, I don’t really recommend this for liquids – a bit messy heh. What these bottles are great for:

  • Depotting samples – I hate using foil sachets, but sometimes it’s the best way to figure out whether or not a product is suitable for my skin. These bottles fit 10 x 1ml sample sachets (the typical sample size!) perfectly!
  • Depotting creams from tubs – as explained above, I don’t have to dip my fingers into jars of cream.
  • Depotting remaining essences from sheet masks – I’ll explain this below.
  • Depotting product from larger containers – when you’re travelling, you really don’t want to carry so much. These are great, as they don’t leak, are within the flight restriction of 100ml, and are really lightweight.

IMG_5288

Soon after, I discovered that it proooobably wasn’t quite practical to use creams in such small bottles. I’d already purchased a larger, 15ml airless pump bottle from Sephora (I highly recommend against this – they’ve marked it up insanely). I got my uncle to send me another package of 20ml airless pump bottles from Taobao, at about $1.50 each!

IMG_530020ml, 15ml, and 10ml

What I like about these bottles is that they’re sleek, and I can easily control how much I’m using. The pump allows me to easily control how much comes out, and since it’s transparent, I can monitor when I need to refill the bottle. I picked 20ml as it’s the perfect capacity – jars of cream tend to come in around 40-100ml, so I don’t have to refill this too often, without carrying around a bulky bottle.

IMG_5292

You might wonder what all these strange products are… This…. is my toolkit for depotting! It’s not very easy to depot some products sometimes, as the pump bottles have a small mouth. For creams, I either use a spatula to scoop it into the bottles, or use a syringe to make a clean transfer. For liquidy-er things, I either use the dropper, or I pour it directly through a funnel.

The Sephora card and giap-giap thing…. I don’t know what it’s called I just use it to seal snacks. …Yes right they seem a little out of place! But it’s my old Sephora card, and these two are amazing for squeeeeeezing out every last drop of product in sample packets! Don’t ever waste any product in sample packets, when you have these two fantastic tools by your side 8) (yes, you can also cut your sample packet open and scrape it out. I don’t like that)

IMG_5290

Honorable mention for spray bottles – these are great for essences (like First Treatment Essences), and very, very thin toners – like the Hatomugi Skin Conditioner. I got the bottles below from Muji, as well as Daiso – I’ve found that the Muji ones are slightly better for misting your face. In the morning, when I’m reaaaally lazy to apply a full morning routine, I’ve taken to simply spraying my Secret Key Starting Treatment Essence over my face.

On a similar note, I’ve included how I store my sheet masks after 1 use – sheet masks typically contain 20-30ml of essence, and it’s always way too much for my face. I’m usually left with 5-10ml of liquid inside, and there are a few options for storage – I could pour the remaining essence into an airless pump bottle and use it over the next few days, or I could seal it. This is how I seal my sheet mask packets:

IMG_5308

With a flat iron!! I seal the top of the packet, and it’s basically airtight inside, ensuring that I can leave the essence to sit around for a week more or so. This is especially useful when I want to sheet mask-up again (i.e. drop a clean, plain sheet mask in to absorb the essence to use). While I’m at it, I’ve heard that some people re-use their sheet masks (YES, THE SAME PIECE OF COTTON), especially if they’re expensive. This is a big no-no – you’re basically re-introducing bacteria onto your face, negating any positive effects the essence might have on your skin.

IMG_5306

What it looks like after – nice and sealed!

I hope this post helped and enlightened any of you looking for alternative storage methods, especially if you’re travelling! 🙂

What’s New: Quarter One, 2015

Exciting times! I’ve decided to do a collective haul post instead, covering what I’ve purchased and received in January, February, and March. Also, it’s my birthday today, so I’ve got quite a few things in the past few weeks 🙂

January: TesterKorea

Okay, this is the earliest haul of all – I purchased these in late January and only received them in February! There was an issue with the sourcing of the Laneige Cushion – I originally ordered the PushButton LE cushion (super super cute. doggy spots all over the case), but they were out – so they replaced it with the Anti-Aging version instead. *shrugs* Early anti-aging for me then! I’ve always loved TK’s customer service – they’re really friendly, and reply super quickly 🙂 (80% of my big hauls are made at TK!)

IMG_4701

Anyway, this is my first ever ~expensive~ TesterKorea haul!!! Previously I’d been purchasing small items, averaging out at 6,000KRW per item – but this time round I went big and got a few small, expensive purchases haha. The Banila Co. Clean It Zero, and the TonyMoly Rabbit Bars aren’t mine though! TK was especially generous with samples this time around (considering the delay in sending the package out even with EMS!).

IMG_4706

I ordered a bunch of Laneige, IOPE, and Clio items! After using my mum’s MAC pot concealer, I thought I should get one for myself too – so I picked the Clio Kill Cover concealer (it’s a little dark on me though.), but it’s a good deal for $14. I’ve found that this is fairly high coverage, which is great for those stubborn blemishes my Shiseido concealer can’t hide.

I also got the IOPE Air Cushion XP (N21) ($38) and Laneige BB Cushion (Anti-Aging) (#13) ($35), vs $50-60 RRP).

…As well as the CC Creams ($33 and $28 respectively, vs $45-60 RRP). At present, I’m more into CC Creams – so you’ll see a review of all my CC Creams soon! I have yet to open the BB Cushions, so that review will come in say, June.

TesterKorea /had/ the most amazing discounts (with 30% off everything), but they’ve recently reduced their discounted selection heh. Either way, if I’d purchased these products from local stores, it’s likely that I would’ve spent twice as much :O

Since I’ll be leaving my my teens soon, I thought that it might be a good time to start getting lipsticks… so I got a beautiful IOPE Color Fit Lipstick ($25, RRP $34) after much time spent deciding what colour to get. I chose an IOPE lipstick because a few shades went absolutely famous after Cheon Song Yi wore them in My Love From The Stars… BUT I made a mistake 😦 I got #29 Metallic Rose, and while it does look very pretty, it’s metallic. It’s got glitter in it. I like matte lip colours, so I’ll be selling this away too…

February: Tom Ford

I’ve also received some fantabulous samples from Tangs – between my mum and I!

IMG_4928

IMG_4930

Mum and I received one Tom Ford miniature Lip Color each – I chose Indian Rose, and she chose True Coral. These are way too beautiful to use…….. I’ve just taken them out occasionally to ogle (please don’t judge me omg)

March: Etude House

Yiyi kindly gifted me some Etude House products! I’ve not tried many of their products, so this is the time for me to see how effective their products are.

3 in 1 smart all in one cream – whitening – sun protection SPF33 PA++ – anti wrinkle

What a huge bottle of CC Cream!

Precious Mineral BB Compact Bright Fit SPF30 PA+++ – N01

Just look at the packaging :’) so girly and princessy! The puff is mega soft as compared to the MAC puff, and there’s the Etude House logo embossed into the powder. I’ve heard that this BB Compact is not bad, so I’m definitely keeping this in my bag – imagine how cute it’d be to whip this out of my makeup pouch :>

Look At My Eyes Cafe – PK005

Smooth, Silky Eye shadow that supplies eyes with a profound, dramatic look.

SUCH a cute colour – I love how this is a basic shade that I can cover my entire lid with 🙂 Plus, this can double up as a cutsey blush colour in a pinch!

Pure Water Baobab Moist Cream

This is a highly moisturizing cream that daily absorbs Baobab’s pure moisture into skin for a clear and moist complexion, containing sufficiently moist Baobab Water and skin purifying Moringa seed extract. Like a burst of water drop, its light watery texture absorbs smoothly into skin with abundant moisture.

I saw this in-store with yiyi, and mentioned how cool Baobab trees are 😀 She definitely remembered it, and she got it for me because of that, and because…. of how much it looks like a baby food jar HAHAHA.

March: Carousell – Shiseido & Laneige

IMG_5134

Got a bunch of Shiseido and Laneige stuff off Carousell!

– High-concentration multiberry extract yogurt pack that nourishes skin from deep inside and leaves skin supple. Hydrates, nourishes and regenerates skin for supple and firming skin.
– Sogurty™, a specialized fermented yogurt, promotes collagen synthesis, and enhances defense ability of skin from harmful external causes to leave skin healthier and firmer. Its anti-inflammatory effects also soothes skin from skin troubles.
– Multiberry complex (various berry extracts from raspberries, blueberries, wolfberries, cranberries, and strawberries) delivers abundant nutrition and antioxidants to eliminate harmful free radicals.
– Exfoliation for smoother skin texture. NAG (N-acetyl-D-Glucosamine), one of the NMF(Natural Moisturizing Factor), and Niacinamide (a component of Vitamin B3) softens and clears micro size dead skin cells left after exfoliating for even denser and smoother skin texture.
– Richer plain yogurt texture: Fresh creamy texture of yogurt nourishes skin with soft touch.

Of all the things I got here, I was most excited about this Laneige Multiberry Yogurt Pack :> It smells absolutely divine – and no surprise here! The label says ‘DO NOT EAT’. This is probably going to be my second option for a night cream (instead of my Ettusais Premium Amino Caviar Cream) – I think I have an affinity for pink creams.

IMG_5145

And to be honest, these 4 were the main reasons why I got the Shiseido samples. L-R: Shiseido Ibuki serum, Lacquer Rouge, Perfect Rouge, and the Natural Finish Cream Concealer – the main reason! This is kinda my HG concealer – the one I’ve been using for >5 years haha. (Honestly, I think I’m going to sell away the Ibuki skincare kit :<)

March: Qoo10 – Wishtrend & 9Wishes

IMG_5085

I purchased the C20 Vitamin C serum from Wishtrend (via Qoo10) for my mum at SGD$12.99 (which is an amazing price by the way!!!), as I don’t think it’s very suitable for my skin – and Wishtrend was super generous by including a Klairs sheet mask, and a COSRX sample! Definitely surprising that Wishtrend treats Qoo10 customers similarly to their original site customers. I’ve been extremely excited to try Klairs and COSRX after finishing my current routine of products, so this is definitely a possibility, purchasing again from Wishtrend. (C’mon, they even threw in a 10% coupon – what’s there not to love about Wishtrend?)

IMG_5136

I also purchased the 9Wishes Vanishing Balm, because I saw preeeetty good reviews of it on Qoo10! This is my ???th CC Cream – and I have a love affair with CC Creams. You’ll see a comparison and swatches of this soon, in my upcoming post: Battle of the CC Creams! I got this for $19.90 for 50ml, which is definitely comparable (or just cheaper!) to the other CC Creams I’ve purchased so far.

Fun fun times 🙂 Gonna start work soon, so this is likely my last collective haul over the next 3 months! (More than enough new products for me to try (i.e. ogle) anyway woohoo)
