Building up my Asian Beauty Collection: RoseRoseShop

Ever since I discovered Asian beauty products last September, I’ve been on the hunt for both the best cosmetic and skincare products from around the region. It’s a well-known fact that Western cosmetics are more well-received here in Asia, with most women ‘moving up’ the ladder from normal drugstore cosmetics to brands like Chanel and YSL. It’s definitely influenced my choices; the couple of years before that, I’d been in and out of Sephora countless times.

I thought the Asian 6/8/10/12-step skincare regime was fairly ridiculous – I mean, can you imagine spending an hour on just your skincare at night!? I couldn’t even be bothered with a Western moisturizer in the past; my mother would force her thick, sticky, uncomfortable creams on my face when we were in travelling in Winter countries, and I would begrudgingly smear it on my face. Before discovering Asian beauty products, I thought skincare had to be so… gross, for a lack of a better word.

I made an order right after my final exams in November, and the giant package arrived about 3 weeks later (even though I had ordered EMS). While that was fairly disappointing, RRS kept in constant contact with me and was efficient in dealing with all my issues, i.e. the slow delivery + the 3 out of stock items (Mizon Snail Ampoule, Good Night White Sleeping Mask, missing Baroness Collagen Mask Sheet). I was satisfied with their service, but I may possibly be sticking with TesterKorea in future due to their more balanced shipping prices.

As you can see, I hauled pretty big on this one – and you may notice that there are no free samples! :O Apparently, RRS doesn’t always hand out free sachet/deluxe samples – they may provide you with some free products. My ‘free sample’ this time was the Aloe Modeling Mask Pack on the top right – it looks fairly generous to me! It was definitely a pleasant surprise πŸ™‚

MizonΒ All-In-One Snail Repair Cream, Aloe 90 Soothing Gel, Hyaluronic Ultra Suboon Cream, Water Volume Aqua Gel Cream

I got the various low-priced creams from Mizon to try out. I also ordered the Good Night White Sleeping Mask (Tube), but they shipped it without cause it was OOS 😦

Of these tubes, I’ve tried the top 2 (the bottom 2 shall only be opened when I’m done with more stuff!) – the All In One Snail Cream for it’s magical/amazing/fantabulous absorbing properties, and the Aloe Vera Gel when I was in Taipei and Hong Kong, as a body gel. I felt as though it was average as a soothing gel; it didn’t penetrate the surface of my skin, but instead it only moisturized the surface. Of course, I’ve also tried the famous Snail Recovery Gel.

Mizon Collagen Power FIrming Eye Cream, Snail Repair Eye Cream

I first started using eye creams last year, when I got a small sample of the Benefit It’s Potent! Eye Cream – and it was. It stung my eyes, and I didn’t really like it in a tiny jar – so I got milder Asian eye creams πŸ™‚ I’m already working on the first tube of Collagen Power Firming Eye Cream, more for future preventive measures. Apparently, eye creams don’t work magic on my sort of dark eye circles – the dark, purpley ones that just don’t seem to go away no matter what you do. Eye creams typically only show results after 6 months or so of consistent use, so there’s that anyway. I have however heard rave reviews of the Snail Repair Eye Cream, so after I’m done with the Collagen I suppose I’ll have higher hopes with the Snail-y goodness πŸ™‚

Mizon Skin Power Original First Essence

My mum has been an avid user of SK-II since… ever, so I’d heard about the benefits of Galactomyces/whatever yeasty ferment products are good for your skin. Over in r/AB, Missha’s Time Revolution FTE and ‘ANR’ are totally raved about – so I decided to go for the cheaper Mizon option for now, as I don’t really want to drop $70 on both products (I found it for ~$65 on Qoo10!). While I’ve read that some people have had amazing results after using this for a couple of days, I didn’t notice any special glow or whatnot – in fact, you already know I have issues with fragranced products, and this smells ofΒ GINGER. Ick! After a week of use, I’m fairly neutral about it – I’m sure I’ll be able to review this better after longer, more consistent use though.

Mizon Multi 24 Enrich Magic Salve

I have not tried this yet, but this seems like it has the consistency of a typical balm. I purchased this as a balm for cracked heels, but I’ve found another cream that works well in the meantime so I likely won’t be opening this anytime soon. It doesn’t have any strong scent.

It’s Skin Power 10 Effectors

When I first saw this series on the ‘special care’ section on TesterKorea, I was super excited to try these out! This series of It’s Skin Power 10 Effectors seemed so cool – they’re cheap (~6000krw / SGD$8), comes in a wide variety, and are perfect to treat various skin concerns at one go – but they were a huge disappointment for me. I actually ordered more of these in the whole series, but 75% of them were actually HEAVILY FRAGRANCED. To the point that when I patch-tested these, the product’s fragrance was so overwhelming it was literally all I could smell – IΒ had to wipe the gunk off my face 😦

I only decided to keep 6 of them, for various reasons:

  • The LI (Licorice) Effector is unscented, and should help with lightening some PIH on my face.
  • The GF (?????????) Effector is also unscented, and should help with soothing redness (sunburns? I doubt I’ll ever get any now that I’m so invested in suncare)
  • The Syn-Ake’s scent was bearable, and I read pretty good reviews of it online. It’s part of the 2 in their ‘premium’ line, along with the Propolis which I sold
  • The VC (Vitamin C) actually smells of lemon. Which is fine. I also wanted to try a milder VC serum (after BFF suggestedΒ against the C20 – she was raving about it when she first got it, but after a couple of months it was like ‘meh it’s okay only’)
  • The VE (Vitamin E). I… actually only kept this because I never asked RRS why my VE effector was full of these flaky things. I couldn’t find many pictures online, and I don’t know whether or not to use it – maybe I’ll drop an email to It’s Skin sometime to confirm this. I won’tΒ even use this for now.
  • The YE (Yeast) Effector is actually the most famous of them all. With the big hype on fermented skincare products in recent years, It’s Skin formulated a Yeast serum to target anti-aging and address hydration. I kept it because the scent was bearable, and it’s the star product – I can’tΒ not give this a try before dismissing the entire line.

A’Pieu Take My Hands Nail Paraffin Pack

I have not tried this yet, but the instructions say that this tub can be reused 3-4 times. Add hot water/pour it away and it’ll help treat your fingers and nails! Sounds exciting!

A’Pieu NonCo Tea Tree Spot Patches

This stuff is amazing. It gets the oil out of my nose overnight – as my bff claims, she ‘uses this like tissue paper’!! These however aren’t as amazing as the 3M hydrocolloid acne bandages; I feel like these two products serve different purposes (those are better for those with pimples with a head). I actually bought 30 of these this time around after using 1 before – no doubt I’m gonna finish them hehe!

The Face Shop Rice Bright Cleansing Cream

Did not really like this. I depotted this into a pump bottle from Daiso, and it was just really… oily. Not very cleanse-y, but just oily. Didn’t really get my makeup off either. At least I can use it as a sunscreen remover for my body?

Miscellaneous 3W Clinic Masks

These masks were really cheap off RRS! They end up around $4-5 per packet of 10 – which makes it a super good deal. I must however mention that they are…. quite fragranced. I didn’t really try all of them yet, but the fresh milk/white one was really scented! Not good if you’re sensitive to fragranced products.

Miscellaneous Baroness Masks

I really liked these masks! I tried on the Collagen one the night I received this haul, and was pleasantly surprised with the quality and how hydrating it was! These, like the 3W clinic masks, were similarly priced – but somehow I felt a lot more satisfied using these masks.

Modeling Mask: Aloe

I was a little surprised at first when I saw this at the top of the box, then I realised that this was the free ‘sample’ that RRS provided with my haul! I actually prefer this to the small foil samples they typically send out – those are not very helpful in letting me decide whether I like a product or not. But FYI I have not tried this yet!! Very strange new trend in Korean masks – modeling masks! You get a little bowl and a spatula and you mix some of this powder up with water, and it becomes a paste that you spread on your face. Then it dries up after 20 minutes and you peel it off! I… will try this one day.

I’ve already been using this stuff for a couple of months, and this was definitely a happy-learning-about-AB haul πŸ™‚
